Restive Taal Volcano has experienced 12 tremors in the the past 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported on Thursday. Residents felt at least two of the tremors.

Taal Volcano in Manila is in the middle of the Lake Taal. The Taal is still active and one can at time see the hot steams coming out. The Taal Lake is 243 sq. km and is south of Manila. The Mount Taal rises up to 984 feet and the last eruptions occurred in 1970. It is a beautiful sight to see that the in between the lake is the island that has the Taal volcano that itself contains another small lake.

The first tremor registered Intensity II at 4:32 a.m. and was felt by residents of Barangay Calauit. They also heard an audible rumbling sound. The second happened at 4:49 a.m. The Intensity I volcanic quake was heard as a faint rumbling sound by residents of the same village.
The agency also reported that water temperature at Main Crater Lake was at 30.5 degrees Celsius (86.9 F). The volcanic quakes and the high water temperature are indicators of continued volcanic activities, prompting Phivolcs to keep Alert Level 2 over the area.
Phivolcs said that magma has been flowing toward the surface, based on carbon dioxide release in the Main Crater Lake and additional seismic activities.
With that alert status, local residents and visitors are not allowed to go to the Main Crater, Daang Kastila Trail and Mt. Tabaro. The agency reiterated its position that the whole area – home to about 2,200 people - should be declared by the government as a permanent danger zone.
Phivolcs also reported two volcanic quakes in the past 24 hours at Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon Province and one at Mount Mayon in Albay Province. Bulusan and Mayon are in the Bicol region. Mayon is known for its near perfect cone and is a tourist attraction.
