First Person video of Joplin MO tornado 5/22/11

Praise God - They survived this. 




Not much picture... you don't need it. As a Hurricane Andrew survivor,
this made me weep.  Brought back the sounds and the wind's fury.

The video i took while at Fastrip on east 20th street. We huddled in the back of the store until the glass got sucked out , then ran into the walk in storage fridge. Sorry for the lack of visuals but the audio is pretty telling of how intense the storm was. The tornado hits at around 1:20 seconds.

• This is really a freak out. Thank God you are all OK. For some reason, this video is more terrifying than any other video or picture I have seen of a tornado. Hearing the storm, the breaking glass, the voices, the crying child- Its all just awful. Whoever was taking charge here did such a great job. So calm and in control. a real blessing to everyone there. I'm praying for all of you in Joplin.

• thank goodness you all made it, i assume. may i recommend people carry more protective clothes in their cars, just in case you need even to help in an emergency. it is easier to stay safe if you have sturdy shoes, and long pants/sleeves. and easier to cope with the aftermath. blankets also, over your heads, for protection.

• omg the sounds of the screams and the winds im from ny and I never imagined how bad a tornado could be my prayers go out to you.. its all over CNN about FEMA coming and the demand for doctors. Already 24 reported deaths this has been some year. I hope you all are okay and made it out safely

• If you live in tornado prone areas, keep a good LED flashlight in your pocket 24/7. Modern LED flashlights are very small, yet very bright, and often offer multiple outputs so you can have plenty of light for a very long time, or a lot of light for a shorter amount of time.
